Eating more plant-based foods is good for your health, the environment and animals.

If you're looking to start incorporating more of these foods and live a healthier life, I recommend you take baby steps!

Go slowly, don't give up everything at once. Here's my top tips for living a plant-based lifestyle.

Add More Fruits and Veggies

Just adding more fruits and vegetables to your day can add lots of benefits. Not only will it up your vitamin and mineral intake, but it also ups the antioxidants! Produce is loaded with different antioxidants that help protect and heal cells in the body.

If you're someone who gets sick a lot I highly suggest doing this.

Try to fill half your plate with fruits and veggies and make them part of your daily snacks.

Don't worry, you don't even need to cut anything else out. Studies have shown adding more fruits and vegetables not only boosts your health, but helps you lose weight! Of course, cutting down on meat and dairy will help as well, but go slowly and do it when you feel ready.

Find Healthy Swaps

This is another good strategy that can help you slowly transition to a plant-based diet. Swap out some of your favorite products little by little for healthier alternatives.

Be sure to read the ingredients on everything you buy. A product might appear to be healthier but after you check the ingredients list you see it's really not!

For example: Instead of greek yogurt switch to low sugar almond or coconut yogurt. Skip the sour cream and make this healthy version yourself!

If you usually have cheese on dishes, leave it off or use nutritional yeast. If you love scrambled eggs, try out this plant-based alternative.

Eat a variety and season it up!

Some people think you have to give up a lot when you're eating plant-based. I find it to be just the opposite.

I eat more of a variety of foods than I ever did in my life… I mean, who ever knew there are so many ways to eat cauliflower – wings, rice, tacos and tuna-less salad!

Think about the fruit, veggies, whole grains and beans that you like to eat and then search for recipes that use them.

Like any foods, they taste better when they've been seasoned! Use different herbs and spices to let the flavors take you from Mexican one night to Italian the next.

Keep getting creative and it won't get boring!
