This Pumpkin Spice Mix is a healthy way to add the pumpkin flavor to all your favorite holiday dishes! Only 4 ingredients needed and takes less than 2 minutes to make. It's also cheaper than most store-bought pumpkin spice!
I use this spice mix in things like pumpkin smoothies, pumpkin pie and of course the pumpkin spice latte!
This past week I drove to 5 different grocery stores and couldn't find pumpkin spice anywhere! That's when I remembered I used to make it myself all the time. I had only shared it on my facebook page a few years ago and realized I need share it here too.
This way we can be sure to have pumpkin spice all season long!
When you make it this way you know exactly what's going in it. Real spices and no preservatives or additives! I find it tastes fresher too.
This pumpkin spice mix is also good for your health! A couple of weeks ago I talked about the benefits of spices packed with antioxidants and this spice mix has 4 good ones!
Cinnamon is one of the most common and cheapest spices used that’s packed with benefits and antioxidants. Cinnamon has also shown to help lower blood pressure and cholesterol.
You might not have realized there's different types of cinnamon, the two most common being Ceylon and Cassia. Ceylon is the better cinnamon as Cassia cinnamon has shown to have some toxic properties. ( FYI the one in the picture is NOT Ceylon – click the link for the one I buy)
Ginger is known for its immense benefits like reducing inflammation. It's commonly used as a remedy for nausea, dizziness, vomiting, and stomach problems like gas, bloating and diarrhea.
Cloves is another spice with high antioxidant levels that help fight against inflammation. It’s been shown to help protect the liver, fight against cancer and improve digestion as well.
Nutmeg has shown to have anti-bacterial properties that can protect against harmful strains of bacteria. (See here, here and here). It's one spice that you don't want to overuse as you can overdose on it! The amount in this spice mix is safe!
