One of the best drinks to have during the summer is a cold slushy! It's a refreshing way to beat the heat, but unfortunately most the slushies sold at gas stations, fast food places and anywhere else you can find a slushy machine are full of sugar and chemicals.

This homemade healthy Strawberry Lemon slushy is only sweetened with fruit and is full of nutrients like Vitamin C, antioxidants and fiber!

One of the worst ingredients in these store-bought slushies are the artificial food dyes. Yes, the bright blue, red, yellow and green are pretty, but they come with a cost.

According to this research, food dyes have been found to be carcinogenic, which means they're linked to cancer. They've also shown to cause ADHD and other behavioral issues in children.

Making one at home helps to keep the sugar down and the chemicals out.

One of my favorite slushes growing up was from a popular drive-in fast food place and it was Strawberry Lemon and that's what I've been craving during this pregnancy so I had to make a healthier version.

This slushy also has lots of health benefits like boosting immunity, protecting cells from aging and helping prevent certain diseases like cancer.

This is such a yummy, refreshing drink for these HOT summer months! I have made this a few times now. My husband enjoys it too! I even caught the dogs trying to sneak a taste! I love that this is so simple and healthy! I used the tip you shared on IG, and cut a piece of the lemon rind off, rather than zesting the lemon. Easy peasy! Thank you, Megan!

So I've learned my Nutribullet doesn't pulverize dates and next time I need to use my Vitamix! Other than that…yummmmmmyyyy
